How to Add Page Numbers to a PDF for Free
Page numbers make long documents easier to navigate, reference, and print — essential for reports, contracts, manuscripts, and handouts. Adding them after a PDF is created used to mean expensive software, but you can now do it free in your browser.
How to add page numbers in your browser
Open the Add Page Numbers tool and drop in your PDF. Choose where the numbers should appear — top or bottom, left, center, or right — set the starting number, and pick a font size. Click Add page numbers and download the result.
The numbers are added to every page automatically, and the whole process runs on your device, so your document is never uploaded.
Choosing the right position
Bottom-center is the most common, classic choice and works for almost any document. Bottom-right suits reports and double-sided printing, while top placements can be useful when the bottom of your pages is already busy.
If your document is part of a larger series, set the starting number so the numbering continues correctly rather than restarting at 1.
